Pomerelle Mountain Resort

The valley's ski hill sits in the Albion Mountains above the small town of Albion, about an hour's drive from Burley. The parking lot is short, the lift lines are usually shorter, and the whole place runs at the friendly pace locals like.

Getting There

Up the canyon from Albion

Pomerelle sits at the top of a winding mountain road that climbs from Albion into the Albion Mountains. The last stretch is narrow and curves steadily, so give yourself more time than the mileage suggests, especially with a car full of gear.

In winter, road conditions are the real variable: storms can leave the upper road snow-packed even when the valley floor is dry. Use your own judgment on winter-ready tires and vehicle capability, and check conditions before you commit to the drive.

On the Mountain

A ski day at Pomerelle

Skiing and snowboarding are the main draw, and the mountain's layout suits a mix of abilities: gentle ground for beginners and kids, along with runs the locals ski hard every weekend. Because it is small, it is an easy place to keep track of a group.

Lessons and rentals are available, which makes it a low-commitment place to try skiing for the first time or get the family outfitted for the day without owning gear.

The resort sells lift tickets through an RFID account system rather than a simple walk-up window, so take a few minutes to look over the current ticket and account process on their website before you leave home.

Planning

Plan the day around the drive

Food, lodging, and mountain weather are the three things worth sorting before a Pomerelle day. On-mountain food options are what you would expect from a small ski area, and lodging down in the valley means the drive home is part of the day, so most locals plan an early start.

Mountain weather in the Albions can differ sharply from the valley floor, and a clear morning in Burley does not promise one at the top. The resort's website has the current conditions, hours, and rates.
